Good information. I always create backups for everything every other month or so. I guess I could create a backup just before deleting an app too, just in case.

General Discussion / DON'T DELETE YOUR APP!!!!!

Let's talk about deleting apps. Don't do it! Deleting an app wipes out all the data associated with the app and more data you have, the more you stand to lose.

Only delete an app if you are sure you will be ok with the data being gone forever.

iCloud backup --- what does it do? Yes, it backs up your data - even your app data, but you have no control on how to restore. To restore your iCloud backup, you need to wipe your entire device, then wait while iCloud puts your data back. iCloud restore is subject to when you have the iPad plugged in, how long, how good your Wifi is, and how well Apple's servers feel like restoring. In short, it could take days or even weeks. This is not a professional solution if you need your data NOW!

So don't listen when someone tells you to delete your app - including Apple. Really.
The only way to know if you have a real backup is to back it up yourself! Don't trust a 3rd party backup, don't trust anyone but yourself.

Do a manual backup and then you will know you are OK!

So let's say you did delete your app.... what then?

If you have ever synced it with a computer/iTunes - then you can restore OR even use iMazing from to get back your files. Imazing will allow partial restores from your backup - which is great!

So do manual backups and every now and then backup to iTunes on a computer if you can. If you cannot, then at least do the iCloud backup - it's not great but better than nothing.
Also, don't wipe your iPad as it will erase all of your files and all of the above applies.

Cconnect the iPad to a computer - then in iTunes (go to the documents folder of your app) you can select multiple files using the shift key or command-click and then press the delete key to delete them.

Here's how to get to the documents folder for unrealBook but this works for most applications on the iPad.
